Julian Assange Talk Show, Larry King…Charlie Rose…Julian Assange? Well, maybe. The voluble, volatile Wikileaks founder is getting his own talk show, or so he says. Beginning in March, Assange will be “hosting a series of in-depth conversations with key political players, thinkers and revolutionaries from around the world,” according to an announcement posted on Wikileaks.org. The plan calls for 10 30-minute installments, broadcast weekly.

Distributors interested in carrying the program are directed to a company called Quick Roll Productions, which, according to its website, “specialises in comprehensive video production for broadcast and new media audiences.” Quick Roll supposedly already has carriage commitments covering “over 600 million viewers across cable, satellite and terrestrial broadcast networks.”

That’s impressive, since Quick Roll doesn’t seem to have existed prior to a couple weeks ago. The company only registered its web domain on Jan. 8, 2012. A search of the Factiva news database turns up no hits for Quick Roll Productions prior to yesterday. Nor is there any such company in the Internet Movie Database.

Did a production company with no digital footprint really manage to secure distribution deals covering 600 million viewers? It seems incredible. It seems even more incredible when you consider that Assange’s track record as a TV interviewer pretty much consists of this awkward, accusatory tete-a-tete with PBS’s Martin Smith, which Assange insisted on as a precondition for granting an interview to “Frontline.” Assange’s history of relations with big media companies is one of conflict: He stormed out of an interview with CNN after being asked questions he didn’t want to answer. He threatened to release an “insurance file” that supposedly contains damaging revelations about News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch. His working relationship with The New York Times devolved into put-downs and accusations of betrayal. He called Facebook an “appalling spying machine.”

Wikileaks TV Show, Controversial WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is getting into the television game. Assange, who has made headlines with his disclosure of government secrets along with allegations of sexual misconduct, will host a TV series comprising “in-depth conversations with key political players, thinkers and revolutionaries from around the world,” WikiLeaks said late Monday.

The title of the series has not been announced yet, but the theme will be “the world tomorrow.”

The series — which is scheduled to premiere in mid-March — “will draw together controversial voices from across the political spectrum — iconoclasts, visionaries and power insiders — each to offer a window on the world tomorrow and their ideas on how to secure a brighter future,” WikiLeaks said.

“Are we heading towards utopia, or dystopia and how we can set our paths?” Assange said of the questions to be raised by the show. “This is an exciting opportunity to discuss the vision of my guests in a new style of show that examines their philosophies and struggles in a deeper and clearer way than has been done before.”

Presumably, plenty of spoilers will be issued by WikiLeaks prior to the show’s run.
