Wavy Tv 10Wavy Tv 10, Virginia has been knocked off its pedestal as the best state in the nation for business, according to an annual survey by CNBC.

After taking top honors in the classification of the financial network in 2007 and 2009, Virginia has lagged behind Texas, whose economy has proved resilient during the recession.

States were measured across 10 major categories. Virginia fell into the “education” as class size is raised and lowered costs. It was also hurt the economy “” category because the pockets of “severe unemployment,” the chain.

“The recession of the last two years has hit manufacturing hard enough,” said Tom Schaad corrugated network television.

Virginia’s best performance was “business friendly”, which classifies the climate of legal and regulatory states, the network said.

Virginia is “full of business opportunities, import and export to public contracts in the state that is home to the Pentagon,” he told CNBC.

Rounding out the top five after Texas and Virginia were Colorado, Massachusetts and North Carolina.

Virginia can claim yet another title – Forbes has ranked the best state “for business” for four consecutive years.
