Sri Krishna Committee Report, India, PM Dr Manmohan Singh is likely to constitute a group of ministers to study the Justice Srikrishna Committee report on Telangana State before making the contents public. The committee should submit its report in two volumes to the Interior Minister of the Union, MP Chidambaram on Thursday. The AP government has directed the security measures, through the infusion of 18 companies of security personnel of the Centre.

As the committee was appointed by the Ministry of Interior of the Union, it is not necessary to the public until its contents GoM submits report, sources told the newspaper. The government does not release the report without forming an opinion on the content.

According to sources, Dr Singh had a meeting with the Minister of Finance of the Union, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Chidambaram, the Defence Minister, Mr AK Antony and Union law minister Mr Veerappa Moily, in addition to senior officials of the PMO.

According to sources, Mr Chidambaram has informed his colleagues on security arrangements made by the home ministry to ensure that the situation is not out of control. Some forces have been kept standby to meet any eventuality, “he said.

It is likely that the GoM will be headed by Mr Mukherjee, who had earlier addressed the contentious issue of UPA state bifurcation AP-1. The ministers, Mr Sharad Pawar (NCP), Ms. Mamata Banerji (Trinamool) – facing demands bifurcation in their own state – and Mr. Dayanidhi Maran (DMK) are recoverable by the GoM besides Mr Chidambaram and M. Moily.

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ms Ambika Soni discussed the opinion issued by the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) using television channels to be cautious in their reporting of the report.

Telangana State

Telangana State,The Telangana issue was on Wednesday brought up in both the Houses with MPs expressing concern over the deteriorating health of TRS leader K Chandrasekhara Rao who is on a dharna demanding a separate Telangana state. While leaders in the Lok Sabha supported Rao’s demand for a separate state, the Rajya Sbaha had to be adjourned briefly after BJP members marched into the well demanding a response from the government on the issue.

In the Lok Sabha, CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta supported the demand for a separate Telangana and urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to convene an all-party meeting to resolve the crisis.

RLD MP Jayant Chaudhary wondered as to why the government was not talking to Rao, who, according to him, was raising an important issue. “It is lamentable that the government talks to terrorist organisations but not to those who have been raising important issues,” he said. The young MP referred to the demand for small states like Telangana, Vidarbha, Harit Pradesh, Poorvanchal, Bundelkhand and said the State Reorganisation Commission should look into it.
CPM member Ramchandra Dome, however, expressed differences over creation of new states. These members raised the issue despite Speaker Meira Kumar urging the MPs to limit their speech to expressing concern over the deteriorating health of Rao. “It is the wish of the entire House that he regains good health soon,” Kumar said.

Leader of Opposition L K Advani and several other members expressed concern over Rao’s health and urged him to withdraw his fast and asked the government to intervene.

In the Rajya Sabha, the BJP sought a response from the government on the issue. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu demanded that the government must come out with a policy announcement.

“I want to draw the attention of the House to the situation in Andhra Pradesh. If a timely decision is not taken and a policy not announced, the situation will worsen. A former minister and MP is on a dharna, why is the government not speaking on the issue? The government has to respond and should be sensitive to the issue. It is not a political issue,” Naidu said in the Rajya Sabha. Saying that he had visited Rao on Tuesday and doctors had informed that his condition was serious. Naidu said I&B Minister Ambika Soni had earlier assured that she would take up the issue with the Home Minister and the PM and hence, it was only pertinent that the government should now respond.

Deputy Speaker K Rehman Khan, who was in the Chair, explained that no response could be sought in Zero Hour, but BJP members soon marched into the well of the House demanding a reply from the government. The Rajya Sabha had to be adjourned briefly.
