The Constitution Of The United States Of America

January 6, 2011 by · Comments Off on The Constitution Of The United States Of America

The Constitution Of The United States Of America, House Republicans will be read aloud on Thursday in a gesture to the Constitution rights and, hopefully, they will listen to the words they recite.
Take, for example, the preamble of the 4543-word document written in Philadelphia in the summer of 1787. It does not have powers, but contains principles.

We the People of the United States, …

This means that everyone, not just some of them. This means acting on behalf of the will of the majority of citizens rather than special interests, such as health care insurers and other campaign donors.

One of the first steps taken by President John Boehner (R., Ohio) and his new GOP majority will vote on the repeal of the law of health care was approved last year. It is high on the agenda tea parties, but less than a third of the population supports this movement.

A majority favor some changes to the law, while almost four in 10 citizens want to keep it as is. This is not really a mandate to dismantle a law that provides coverage for health care for people regardless of their employment status or ability to pay. And most legislators eager to remove the health insurance for people others do not dream of giving up their own plan Cadillac funded by taxpayers.

… To form a more perfect Union, …

The framers of the Constitution were wise in many ways, but today we would call this particular phrase “spin”. The founding fathers knew that the national government, they created was not perfect, so their efforts to make it better.

The nation has been at work perfecting the Constitution since. There were 27 amendments, including those of African Americans in recognizing as citizens (1868), allowing Congress to impose taxes on income (1913), and to give women the right to vote (1920). Literalism Tea Party aside, rightly Constitution evolves with the needs of society.

… Establish Justice, insure domestic tranquility do, provide for the common defense, and promote the general welfare …

Prosperity and fairness are the themes. Despite GOP criticism of Obama’s measures of economic recovery, they work. The U.S. private sector added nearly 300,000 jobs in December, the most in a decade. Attempts to unravel this momentum would be stupid.

… And secure the Blessings of Liberty to our Posterity, and we do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

The last principle, the freedom for future generations, including fiscal responsibility. But the new majority in the House budget calls for rules that make it easier to run up more deficits.

Put the federal government on a responsible path is the financial imperative, and it will not be achieved in a single season. It should not be accomplished without requiring the sacrifice at all levels.

US CONSTITUTION TEXT

US CONSTITUTION TEXT, Today, the House of Representatives will begin the 112th Session of Congress by the recitation of the Constitution of the United States. Family Research Council President Tony Perkins made the following comments on the reading of the Constitution and the Chairman Boehner unique opportunity to identify priorities for the next presidential election:

“Today, the reading of the Constitution in the House reflects a renewed commitment to following the charter of our nation. This guidance is based on the transcendent truth that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are rights endowed by their Creator.

“The Constitution itself is founded on Judeo-Christian understanding of human dignity, religious freedom and the importance of personal virtue in representative self-government. On this basis, it defines the roles, functions and the boundaries of federal governance. Thus, the Constitution guarantees that if it is followed with integrity and diligence, our republic and freedom we enjoy in ordering it to remain strong and vibrant.

“As the new Speaker of the House John Boehner has a unique opportunity to shape the nation’s conversation and the priority to enter the 2012 presidential election. If he and his new team of leaders from the House to listen to what the voters said in November, they can begin to reverse and repair some damage caused by the 111th Congress and lead the country to its founding principles.

“It is up to John Boehner. And from the sounds of his opening speech, he is well aware of that. As long as Republicans maintain that focus, efforts to demoralize the GOP, which has already begun, will not question, “said Perkins.

Constitution Day

Constitution Day, September 17 is Constitution Day. Today, we celebrate the 223rd anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) are holding a Constitution Week from today, September 17 through 23. Constitution Week was actually approved by the U.S. Congress and became Public Law 915 of August 2, 1955. President Eisenhower signed the act of law, which was defended by the DAR. How times have changed.

Once a revered document of Liberty, the Constitution has been beaten in recent years. Many people, like President Obama, think of it not as a means of ensuring liberty but as a restriction on what government can do. Nancy Pelosi was recently asked if a piece of constitutional law and said she thought the question was a joke. As if the Constitution had no more meaning or relevance. She is not alone, as other members of Congress and women also have made statements for the past 2 years that Congress can do whatever he wants, regardless of the Constitution.

But a group of citizens have recently begun to use the Constitution on their sleeves. The movement of the Tea Party has led a resurgence in the study and respect the U.S. Constitution. So much so that the liberal media, liberal and even in law enforcement, taking into account any person who carries or quotes from the Constitution of a crazy madman or a potential terrorist.

I often think of the old original ‘Star Trek’ episode, “The Omega Glory”, where Captain Kirk enlightens Yang tribal leaders that the Constitution was not only for the chiefs. “Look at these first three words written larger than the rest. With special pride never written before or since. Is high, proud to say that people …” Even Kirk knew that the Constitution was for all citizens to know and love.

Tea Party has been lighting a fire under the feet of our political class, recalling how the Constitution is supposed to limit the power and authority of our government. There is a carpet, not a drop of ink. The Constitution is the Law of the Land, and must be respected by all, especially by members of our government.

So congratulations to the Tea Party and the Daughters of the American Revolution to celebrate Constitution Day and Constitution Week. Shame on those who think it is a document of “negative rights” or even totally irrelevant this day and age. The Constitution is immortal, because we, the people also immortal. We are not going anywhere and we will not allow the Constitution to be trampled.
