Chris Henry Not Dead – Chris Henry Car Accident UPDATE:Hours after false Chris Henry dead reports started, Chris Henry is still wrongly being reported as dead. Chris Henry’s car accident has not resulted in Henry’s death, the last update given by his agent shortly before midnight Wednesday.

Chris Henry credited fiancee Loleini Tonga just weeks ago for turning his life around, telling the Cincinnati Enquirer in October that Tonga has “been a big help. She’s been right here with me and going through things and helping out on my side. We have the kids, and she has my back with everything I’ve needed.”

Henry had problems in college. At West Virginia he “repeatedly got in trouble” reports ESPN. He would be drafted by the Bengals third round, help leading them to the 2005 playoffs. But at the same time, his first season in the league included being arrested for substance possession, then on weapons charges 30 days later, and two times thereafter additionally. In 2007, he was arrested again. That fifth arrest resulted in him being released. Coach Marvin Lewis convinced the team to bring him back for a 2 year contract starting in 2008.

In 2009, Chris Henry had 12 receptions and 2 TDs produing 236 yards. For his 5 years in the league, he produced 21 TDs, 119 receptions, over 1826 yards. His last game was against the Ravens in which he delivered on 1 reception and 20 yards. In week 7 against the Bears, he had 1 TD with 2 receptions and 26 yards.

The last update officially was from his agent Andy Simms of PlayersRep Sports around midnight last night:

“We ask everyone to pray for Chris.

“We also ask that you respect the privacy of Chris’ family. Chris is indeed battling for his life tonight, and our thoughts and prayers (are) with him during this extremely difficult time.”

The fake death report stemmed from a false Twitter account. Gregg Rosenthal of NBC reports that “a fake Twitter account led to multiple outlets from newspapers to major sports and news blogs to repeat information that Henry passed away.”

Before the start of the 2009 season, Henry in training camp told AP that he was blessed.

“I don’t live the way I did in the past,” Henry said, in an interview with The Associated Press during training camp. “I kind of plan my days out and take it one day at a time and stay away from the wrong people. I’m not partying anymore. I’m just focused on football right now and my family. I don’t associate with the same people. I’ve completely changed everything.”
