Star Trek 2013Star Trek 2013, After 4 years, the next Star Trek film by J.J. Abrams will be released on May 17, 2013. The same cast from the 2009 Star Trek film will be returning. J.J. and his Bad Robot team are are working on the screenplay with Alex Kurtzman, Robert Orci (2009 Star Trek writer) and Damon Lindelof of ABC’s “Lost”.

There is plenty of speculation going on with what the next film plot may hold and if there will be any connection to the previous film. J.J.’s recent interest in actor Benicio Del Toro who strikes a strong resemblance to Recardo Maltaban’s character Khan. There is also another rumor that he could be playing a villainous Klingon. We’ll keep looking for clues but I’m hoping it’s Khan!

In 2009s’ Star Trek film, the story rebooted history for the crew of the Enterprise leaving some fans speechless over the big change in events. At the same time the movie was well received by fans and first-time fans, giving room to re-expand the Star Trek universe as we had once known it. J.J. has a gift for keeping things hush-hush and and will surely offer twists that we will never see coming, but he also understands the essential elements of Star trek and the key players that have made it memorable.

The sequel will also be the first of the movie franchise to be released in 3D. Typically I don’t care about 3D movies as I once did with Avatar. I guess if you watch too many films in 3D it just does not seem as spectacular as it could have been. However, I do believe if any movie should be done in 3D is should be Star Trek. It’s grand space battles, warp speed, photon torpedoes and phaser action is sure to be a visual pleaser. (I’m going to make sure to not watch any 3D movies a month or two before it’s release so I can soak in all of that space combat fun.)
