The Secret Garden, 2008 Denver School of the Arts grad Jamie Billings is not yet three years of high school, and it is not only appear in a musical – but the music all the players of his age is desperate to be in. Its “Spring Awakening,” based on a German tragedy forbidden 1891 on adolescents discovers the startling claim of adolescence.
Seeing “Spring Awakening” for the first time was one of my most magical moments of drama. It was unlike anything I had ever seen. Beautiful pictures, music tonic, choreography inspired and poignant messages were so far from your traditional music. They kept me on the edge of my seat the whole show. Above all, however, I was extremely inspired by the fact that people my age have been using theater to tell a story as important.

So, seriously, what was better: Being nominated for a Prix 2004 Denver Post Ovation youngest best actor in the Evergreen Players’ “The Secret Garden””… or throw himself into the national touring production of “Spring Awakening?”
Well, they were both springboards. “The Secret Garden”’was an incredible start to my theatrical journey. I do not show the summer before my freshman year at Denver School of the Arts, and the process made me want to continue to pursue my passion for the theater. I think the 2004 Denver Post Ovation Award nomination for as a springboard for the many achievements to come in my scene shipment. And “Spring Awakening” became another rock incredible step forward for me. I’m so proud to see how I came from my wonderful experience in “Le”Secret Garden.

Never give up. My experience of auditioning for “Spring Awakening” extended over three years. I had such a passion for the show, and I never really closed the door to the casting. Some of the best advice I received from my DSA drama teacher, Shawn Hann, was to go out and tell the truth. I followed this advice with me, both on stage and off.
