Super Bowl 2012 Ads

Super Bowl 2012 Ads, Super Bowl advertising bears as much relationship to everyday advertising as Super Bowl eating bears to everyday eating. Last night saw advertisers laying on what they hoped would be a bountiful spread for the almost half of American households that switched on to watch the Giants take on the Patriots.

It’s the one night that advertisers take off from hawking their wares in order to entertain their viewers. We hear less product specifications in the voiceovers; we see fewer promotions in the endframe. Super Bowl ads don’t club us over the head with a monthly lease offer or hit us with a new minty flavour. The creative who wants a parachuting car or a celebrity cameo gets the green light rather than the stink-eye from the cost controllers. The night belongs to what they think we want to watch.

And when the objective is giving 110 million people what you think they want to watch, advertisers play it safe. The night’s ads kept to familiar themes and aimed to hit familiar notes. Compared to hosts NBC, who paired Madonna with a finger-flipping MIA at half-time, advertisers stayed within the guardrails.

Rush Limbaugh Picking Nose

Rush Limbaugh Picking Nose, There have been plenty of stories emanating from Super Bowl Sunday. Not only have we had riots and a halftime malfunction, but one picture making its way around is of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh allegedly picking his nose while in the luxury box of Patriots owner Robert Kraft. But there’s just one problem: video of pickgate shows the alleged picking was more of a poking.

The original picture originated on the site Deadspin, which called the man who appears to be Rush a “knuckle-deep nose spelunker:”

USA Today originally bought the nose-picking theory, as evidenced by the story appearing — with USA Today copyright — on the website of the Tucson Citizen:

Why? you might ask. Because as Mediaite notes, “from the viewer’s vantage point, it was hard to delineate the difference between whether Limbaugh was making a pick or merely scratching his nose.”

And now, video evidence has surfaced showing the “pick” was most likely a split-second scratch. The intrepid blogger Daily Rushbo walks us through the evidence:

It should be noted that there are some wondering whether it’s even Rush. But Kraft was a guest at Limbaugh’s wedding and a close up appears to show Rush’s hearing implant:

Tiki Barber And Traci Johnson May Wedding Delayed Pending Divorce

Tiki Barber And Traci Johnson May Wedding Delayed Pending Divorce, In the words of the immortal Lee Corso, “Not so fast, my friend.”

According to the New York Post, Tiki Barber and his fiancee Traci Lynn Johnson were set to marry next spring, but the wedding has been put on hold as a result of Barber’s unresolved divorce to his previous wife, Ginny.

“Tiki and Traci cannot get married until the divorce with Ginny is settled, and it’s taking longer than they expected to reach a settlement,” a source told the New York Post.

Johnson, who recently posed in lingerie in Maxim, met Barber while he was working for NBC and she was an intern. While the job didn’t work out for Barber, he was let go by NBC in May of 2010, the relationship did, with Barber and Johnson announcing their engagement in August.

But their courtship was not without controversy. Tiki left Ginny, his then wife for 11 years, while she was pregnant with twins. Now, after a thus far unsuccessful NFL comeback attempt, Barber reportedly can’t afford to pay what Ginny is demanding in the divorce settlement.

The situation seems messy, which has more or less been par for the course thus far in Barber’s post-NFL life, but if he wants to hear wedding bells in the near future, it looks like the former Giant will need to find a new line of work quick.

Tiki Barber And Traci Johnson, Tiki Barber and his fiancée, Traci Lynn Johnson, were set to marry next spring — but Barber’s bitter unresolved divorce with his estranged wife, Ginny, is delaying the wedding bells.

Sources told us Barber and Johnson, who got engaged in August, had planned to wed in May at a private home in the Hamptons. But because Barber’s divorce isn’t yet settled, the wedding is now on hold.

“Tiki and Traci cannot get married until the divorce with Ginny is settled, and it’s taking longer than they expected to reach a settlement,” said a source who also claimed Johnson had started making arrangements, including printing invitations and searching for venues for wedding showers.

“Traci may have got a little too excited and ahead of herself with the wedding arrangements,” the source added.

The Barber divorce case remains in Manhattan Supreme Court while the warring couple butt heads over money. Tiki has said he can’t afford Ginny’s alimony demand.

Johnson, a former NBC intern who posed in her skivvies in Maxim’s September issue, confirmed to us that they’ve put their nuptials on hold for the time being.

“Tiki and I are very excited for the next stage of our lives together, but we have no concrete wedding plans as of yet,” she said, and denied that invitations have been printed.

The Post first revealed in April 2010 that Tiki, 36, had dumped Ginny, then pregnant with twins and after 11 years of marriage, for Johnson, 24. Ginny filed for divorce and shortly after gave birth to twin girls. The couple also had two older sons, AJ and Chason.

Johnson and Tiki, who is trying to mount a comeback in the NFL after five years on the sidelines, have since moved in together in Manhattan. Tiki’s lawyer, Arlene Dubin, didn’t return calls, and a rep for Ginny didn’t get back to us.
