National Dog Show

National Dog Show, An impressive Wire Fox Terrier, Eira, has been crowned champion at the 10th annual National Dog Show Presented by Purina.

Eira is a four-year-old Wire Fox Terrier hailing from California. She has a strong pedigree, and is a member of a family tree of other highly ranked Wire Fox Terriers. The win in Philadelphia gave Eira her 17th Best In Show award.

The road to Best in Show at the National Dog Show was not easy; Eira bested the almost 1,500 dogs who participated in this year’s show. She won the Terrier Group, and as a finalist outperformed the English Springer Spaniel, the Affenpinscher, the Australian Shepherd, the Dalmatian, the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Whippet.

In a couple of months, Eira will look to become only the third show dog to win both the National Dog Show and the famed Westminster Kennel Club show in the same year.

Two year’s ago her handler, Gabriel Rangel, made that very achievement with Sadie, the Scottish Terrier. “[Eira] looks beautiful and she moves beautifully,” he says.

As impressive as Eira is, she was also joined by an equally impressive batch of group winners.

Group Winners of the 2011 National Dog Show

Toy Group: An Affenpinscher named “Joey”, who won the group for the second year in a row.

Hound Group: A Whippet named “Chanel” from the tornado-stricken town of Joplin, Missouri.

Working Group: A Bernese Mountain Dog named “Tanner” hailing from Pennsylvania.

Non-Sporting Group: A Dalmatian named “Ian” from Laguna Beach, CA.

Herding Group: An Australian Shepherd from New Hampshire named “Reckon”. “Reckon” was named Best In Show at the 2010 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship.
