The 51-year-old ‘Pirates!’ star – who welcomed Tabitha last September after a ”fleeting affair” with Chinese actress Tinglan Hong, 32 – admits he is enjoying fatherhood much more than he expected.

He said: ”[People] said never let anyone know, but the baby period is not that exciting. But I am excited, actually.  ”I thought, well, I’ll bluff through – but very little bluffing has been required. I like my daughter very much. Fantastic. Has she changed my life? I’m not sure. Not yet. Not massively, no. But I’m absolutely thrilled to have had her, I really am.”

He continued: ”And I feel a better person. There probably is some truth that one of our main functions on the planet is to reproduce, because it feels like more of an achievement than it should do.

”Yesterday I took my daughter to see my father, who’s in hospital, and all the nurses were cooing over her. And I felt, well, pride.”

But Hugh has vowed not to spoil his little one after witnessing first-hand the damage an unlimited bank balance can do.

In an interview with The Guardian newspaper, he explained: ”There are few things in life I believe in 100 per cent – but another one is not giving your children money.

”I see nothing but f**k-ups among my trust-fund friends. It’s like 99 per cent f**k-ups. So I would not want to do that to my children, no.”

The Brit showed off his nasty side playing Daniel Cleaver opposite Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth in the first two films, which were both huge hits at the box office.

Reports have suggested all three stars are gearing up for a third installment, but Grant reveals they are still to sign any contracts as the draft storylines have not been up to scratch.

He tells Total Film magazine, “I did like playing Daniel Cleaver, but there is no definite part three. None of the three of us have signed up yet. There’s been a number of drafts that have had great things in them but haven’t quite hit the bullseye.

“But they’re working on it again now with yet another writer, as soon as they get to a good point we will do it, I’m sure. It’s just that it does have to be significantly reinvented.”

Hugh – who has previously dated Elizabeth Hurley and Jemima Khan – was related to the late actress Leatherback Kong China, but it is not known if she is the mother.

He has already hinted he was ready to have children, saying: “. As much as I love, I am very interested in finding someone who care more”
