Herman Cain Endorses Newt Gingrich

March 8, 2012 by · Comments Off on Herman Cain Endorses Newt Gingrich

Herman Cain Endorses Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain announced his support of Newt Gingrich today at a Tulsa Pizza Parlor. His endorsement came after he belted out “America the Beautiful” to a crowd of about 100 people, according to MSNBC.

“Even though I am no longer pursuing the position of president,” said Mr. Cain, who dropped out of the race for the Republican nomination in December, “I am still on a mission and that mission is to make sure that we get the right person in the White House and that person is former Speaker Newt Gingrich in order to help save America.”

Mr. Cain’s statement of support comes just one day ahead of Super Tuesday, when ten states will head to the primaries. Gingrich, who is currently vying with Rick Santorum for second place in the race for the Republican nomination after Mitt Romney, is depending on some big wins this Tuesday to stay viable.

Cain formally endorsed Gingrich in back January, citing his “bold ideas” and his patriotism as the reason for his choice. He said on CNN “Newsroom” that there were important parallels between their platforms, including the 9-9-9 tax plan.

Herman Cain, who, just like Newt Gingrich, hails from Georgia, is an important endorsement. Many of the states that will head to the primaries in March are Southern states with conservative constituencies. Both Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum are portraying themselves as the conservative alternative to Governor Romney, who hails from Massachusetts. Herman Cain, who was affiliated with the conservative Tea Party movement, has now placed his bets on Newt Gingrich.

While Cain’s conservative affiliations may be helpful to Newt Gingrich’s campaign, Herman Cain remains a controversial figure. Several female former employees accused Mr. Cain of sexual harassment last fall, saying that the Tea Party activist had made sexually suggestive acts and gestures toward them during their employment. At least two of the women settled harassment complaints against Cain, both for over $10,000, the Washington Post reports.

Mr. Gingrich trailing in the polls, and will have to battle to take on Rick Santorum, much less Mitt Romney, who leads with more than 100 delegates. This week could turn things around, however.

Mitt Romney’s campaign pointed out this weekend that Rick Santorum is likely to suffer because he failed to register delegates in a number of states that are going to the polls this Tuesday; Gingrich is depending on his appeal to conservative voters and Rick Santorum’s blunders to surge ahead with conservative voters this month. He spoke confidently this weekend, saying that he would be the only candidate that could take on Obama in the debates.

As he reminded George Stephanopoulos of ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, there are still many weeks before Republicans will choose their nominee, and the Democrats were neck and neck into June last year.

Herman Cain’s Wife

Herman Cain’s Wife, Herman Cain’s wife Gloria was “disgusted” by allegations he sexually harassed women but remained “200 percent supportive of me,” the GOP presidential contender told Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly.

In remarks made Thursday, but broadcast Monday night, Cain added that she was “still 200 percent my wife.”

He said his wife was “handling this as I expected her to.”

Cain complained to O’Reilly about “media scrutiny over insignificant stuff.” The remarks to O’Reilly were reported on ABC News’ website.

The interview took place before the emergence of the first named accuser, Sharon Bialek. She is the fourth woman to say she was harassed by Cain.

Bialek’s detailed and lurid accusations – that Cain groped her in a car after she asked for his help finding a job – spun his already embattled campaign into an uncertain new territory.

“He deserves a fair chance. But that doesn’t mean he gets a pass. These are not anonymous allegations anymore unfortunately,” said New Hampshire conservative activist Jennifer Hor, who last week had condemned media coverage of the allegations against Cain. “I think he does need to take another step and answer a few more questions.”

Godfather’s Pizza, Herman Cain

Godfather’s Pizza, Herman Cain, Don’t worry, Newt. Herman Cain has your back. The former Godfather’s Pizza CEO — who dropped his own bid for the White House after allegations he had an extra-marital affair — backed the ex-House speaker for lashing out at a question on his personal life.

Newt Gingrich spoke up at Thursday night’s debate when the host asked him about claims by the politician’s second ex-wife that he wanted an open marriage.

“I loved Newt Gingrich’s response because that’s the same crap that they pulled on me,” Cain told Fox News on Friday morning.

He added, “And that’s what’s wrong with politics.

“That’s what’s turning the American people off. What does something that happened 20 years ago, relative to an ex-wife, have to do with Americans’ problems today? Nothing. So I loved when Newt Gingrich shoved it back in their face.”

Cain pulled the plug on his campaign on Dec. 3. following accusations of sexual misconduct and an extramarital, 13-year affair with Georgia businesswoman Ginger White.

During a November CNBC debate in November, the crowd booed network moderator Maria Bartiromo after she asked Cain to address the allegations, which he blasted as “character assassination.”

Fireworks exploded in South Carolina Thursday after CNN host John King began the GOP debate with a question about open marriage.

“To take an ex-wife and make it two days before the primary a significant question in a presidential campaign is as close to despicable as anything I can imagine,” Gingrich fumed to an applauding audience. He denied any wrongdoing.

King defended his question to CNN’s Anderson Cooper, saying it was a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation.”

“It might not be a great issue. It may not be an issue we like to talk about it. But is an issue in the debate. Some of the other candidates are talking about it. Voters are talking about it in the state. It was my judgment, my decision and mine alone … People at home either agree or disagree with that.”

How the open marriage allegations will play out during Saturday’s critical South Carolina primary is yet to be seen.

H&M Defends Girl With Dragon Tattoo Fashion Line

December 15, 2011 by · Comments Off on H&M Defends Girl With Dragon Tattoo Fashion Line

H&M Defends Girl With Dragon Tattoo Fashion Line, H&M’s new Girl with the Dragon Tattoo collection, which is released today, has been accused of glamorising rape. Journalist, blogger and rape victim Natalie Karneef has written an open letter to the clothing retailer accusing their new range of clothes of putting a ‘chic consumerist finish’ on sexual violence. ??

The clothing line, featuring a collection of darkly-coloured hoodies, leather jackets, skinny jeans and thick black boots inspired by Dragon Tattoo’s heroine Lisbeth Salander, was designed by Trish Summerville, who was also costume designer on the Hollywood movie. ??

Salander’s style is attributed to her steely, outsider demeanour brought on by her being raped as a teenager and witnessing her father’s brutal violence towards her mother. ??

Writing in the Montreal Gazette, Karneef says: “What message is H&M sending to the world? Look at the trendy rape survivor? Look how strong she is, that she can get through all that hell and still wear cool leather jackets?”??

H&M has defended the line saying that it is about a strong, independent woman, and have released a statement saying: “Our goal is to offer a collection that we see in today’s trend picture that will appeal to many customers. ??

“We do not view this collection as provocative – it contains pieces that are staples in many people’s wardrobes: jeans, biker jackets and T-shirts. It’s all about how you wear them.”
