Growing Up Skipper Ebay, Skipper Roberts was a doll created by Mattel in 1964 to be Barbie’s younger sister, as well as to oppose controversies directed at Barbie. Since Skipper was introduced, she has changed immensely. When she first came out, she was 9.25 inches in height (compared to Barbie’s 11.5 inches), and then as newer versions were released she gradually became taller with an older appearance, eventually turning out to be almost as tall as Barbie. At first, Skipper was available with three different hair colors, but later was only available as a blond. Usually, Skipper dolls had blue eyes.

The doll appeared as a character in several Random House novels and Marvel Comics. A fictional biography was developed for her from these, as well as from the backs of the boxes which held the dolls that were sold. Several celebrity and fantasy dolls were produced at the Skipper size, most recently two twin dolls from the Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses line.

Growing Up Skipper, The controversy around the Bald Barbie continues. Story goes two women who bonded over hair loss launched a social media campaign in December urging Mattel to make a bald Barbie to acknowledge the young girls who suffer from diseases that can lead them to lose their hair.

Most recently, Andrew Becker, a director of media relations for the American Cancer Society (ACS), caused a stir after publishing a blog post on the ACS’s website titled “Bald Barbie Demand Is an Over-Reach.” Becker wrote that the Bald Barbie movement could “do more harm than good for kids and parents.”

The post was immediately met with ire from Bald Barbie campaign supporters who posted angry messages on the ACS website demanding that Becker be fired, according to ABC News.

Becker didn’t lose his job but he did pull the blog post and replaced it with an apology: “When I set out to write, I wanted to raise questions about activism and social media around disease. I did not mean to imply that I or the American Cancer Society believes that sick children are not important.”

This isn’t the first time Barbie has caused an uproar. Her history is marked by controversies. Here’s a look at a dozen of them (be sure to turn on photo captions).
