The Amazing Race

December 11, 2011 by

The Amazing Race, Sandy Draghi may have completed a race around the world – The Amazing Race – but for her, it all started in Livermore. She was born at Valley Memorial Hospital, attended Sunset Elementary and Mendenhall Middle School, and graduated from Granada High School in 1995. She now lives in Dublin.

Sandy and boyfriend Jeremy Cline of Alamo are one of the final three teams in Season 19 of The Amazing Race. To get there, they planted hundreds of rice seedlings in Indonesia, rode an elephant in Thailand, churned butter in Denmark, and competed in a bodybuilding competition in Germany.

“I watched the show from the start and always wanted to go on it, just for the pure adventure and competition,” said Sandy.

Her father Gary is not surprised that she and Jeremy made it to the final leg. “She’s so competitive and driven and she loves adventure,” he said.

Sandy played goalie on Granada’s varsity soccer team all four years of high school and attended the University of San Francisco (USF) on a soccer scholarship. She lists her education and playing on USF’s Division 1 soccer team as her proudest accomplishments.

One of the toughest challenges in The Amazing Race was facing her fear of heights. Because team members must perform an equal number of Roadblock challenges, she had no choice but to complete a tightrope walk 35 stories off the ground between two buildings in Panama.

“I knew she had a drive in her but I did not know it was that big. She did not even hesitate when it came to that fear. She just did it,” said an awe-struck Jeremy in a CBS interview.
