Stage 4 Throat Cancer

September 1, 2010 by

Stage 4 Throat Cancer, Michael Douglas, to appear on “The Late Show with David Letterman” on Tuesday, surprised the audience when he revealed his throat cancer is “a stage IV.”

The actor, in town to promote “Wall Street 2”, appeared happy, though a little thin after just completing a week of radiation and chemotherapy. Letterman joked, and unconvincing, he managed to keep cheerful interview.

Douglas said he learned he had cancer three weeks ago “just when I heard he was going to be in your show.”

“It is not possible to have a medical connection,” Letterman joked.

“It’s a stage IV, which is intense, so I have to go to that,” Douglas said Letterman.

“Now, when you said that the stage IV, I heard someone shout,” Letterman said. “Now is step 4 where you want to be or where they want to be?”

“Um, no,” said Douglas. “No, I like being down on stage.”

The 65-year-old, said his particular form of cancer is caused by “alcohol and drinking.”

“But no – the big thing is always concerned about the spread,” continued Douglas. “So I’m head and neck. I am above the neck, so nothing has gone down, and expectations are good.”

Douglas said his chances of recovery are 80 percent and with certain hospitals and all, it does improve. ”

“Oh, boy, I feel like I want to do something for you,” Letterman said in the end of the interview. “Anything I can do for you?”

“Ahh, give me a hug,” said Douglas.

They did, and received a standing ovation.
