Scott Walker | USsPost.com:GM George McPhee has made his first move of the day, acquiring veteran forward Scott Walker from Carolina in exchange for a seventh round pick, I’m told.
Although it’s fair to wonder how much the 36-year-old has left in the tank, my first impression is that he’ll add a level of leadership and grit to a young Caps lineup that may benefit from those intangibles during a long playoff run. The move also could be the precursor to another, more significant deal.
Walker’s $ 2.5 million contract ends in July.
“He energizes a team at the right time,” TSN analyst Pierre McGuire said on the air. “Washington’s going to be a targeted team, so you look at what Jason Chimera and Scott Walker can bring to the table, it could be massive.”
