One Hit Wonder of the Decade

December 8, 2009 by

One Hit Wonder of the Decade:There are certain titles in music that no one wants to hold and  “one hit wonder” is the most feared. It suggests that your overall career has been a failure, and you’ve only managed to create a small flicker of success. Billboard has made one of the most important announcements of the past 10 years by naming Mr. Daniel Powter as the biggest one hit wonder of the decade!

Daniel Powter had a catchy, overly optimistic song entitled, “Bad Day” back in 2006 that topped the Billboard charts for 5 weeks in a row. He performed it on American Idol and even got one of the actresses from The O.C. to star in the video. The song was everywhere and spread like a venereal disease across international airwaves. After the unprecedented success of “Bad Day,” Powter’s career took a nose dive when he decided to take a couple of years off before returning with his follow up LP Under the Radar, which stayed just that.

Following “Bad Day” on the one hit wonder list is Fat Joe and the Terror Squad at number 2 with “Lean Back. Number 3 is Crazy Town with “Butterfly,” followed by MIMS’ “This Is Why I’m Hot” and D4L’s “Laffy Taffy.” The magazine only considered tracks spanning from 2000-2007, so last year’s hacks were spared the criticism. Poor Daniel Powter, it looks like he had more than just a bad day, but at least he got paid.
