July 10, 2010 by

FlugtagFlugtag:Today is the Redbull Flugtag annual event, held in Miami this year. “Flugtag means” flying day “in German is the perfect name for the competition, organized by Red Bull, with applicants who submit their own homemade contraptions flight and launch them off of a deck of 30 feet, usually as a flight deck in a military warship in the water.

The teams are selected to participate are judged on 3 different criteria. The first is how your widget is really flying or how far is once sent flying from the roof. The second criterion is the creativity of the craft, which in the past has led to the creation of amazingly original equipment designs often seem to fly as well as a rock. Judgement criteria is performance, after all, the hundreds of thousands of people who attended did not really care about how their creation flies, but rather how you look to fail.

Equipment for the event this year includes names such as “The Flying Manatee”, “Mullet Slappers”, “One Giant Leap”, and a lot of other names worthy of laughter. In total, 38 teams were selected from 270 candidates. The only rules for the design and making of crafts is to be made by hand and human motor apart from that, contestants were given carte blanche to be as creative as you like with their flying machines.

For anyone in the Miami area interested in Redbull Flugtag, the event is free for attendees. Gates for the event at Bayfront Park starting at 10 am and the last flight is scheduled at 2:30 pm There is food, drink and beer vendors to keep the crowd occupied between flights.
