Demoted Worker Shoots CEO, Kills Self In Chicago, A demoted worker shot and critically wounded his company’s CEO before fatally shooting himself Thursday inside a downtown high-rise office building in Chicago’s bustling financial district, police said.

Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said a worker at a technological company pulled a gun after entering the 17th-floor office to meet one-on-one with his CEO. There was a struggle for the gun, and the CEO was shot twice before the gunman fatally shot himself, McCarthy said.

McCarthy said the company was downsizing and “a number of people,” including the alleged shooter, were being demoted.

“Apparently he was despondent over the fact that he got demoted,” McCarthy said.

The 54-year-old victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition after being shot in the head and stomach, McCarthy said. The 59-year-old alleged gunman was pronounced dead at the scene. Their names and the name of the company haven’t been released.

About 10 people were in the office at the time, he said. No other injuries were reported.

Ebola Outbreak US Worry, An outbreak of Ebola in West Africa may seem like a distant threat to many Americans, but it is causing some to cancel travel plans and stirring fear in Minnesota, which has the largest Liberian immigrant population in the United States.

The potentially Ebola-related death last week of a Liberian government official whose wife and children live in Minnesota has heightened concerns and inspired a fundraising drive to send medical supplies to Liberia. State health officials also have been meeting with community members to talk about recognizing the disease and how to travel safely.

More than 670 people have died during the recent outbreak in West Africa. But no cases of Ebola have been confirmed in the United States, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday it poses little risk to the general U.S. population.

“It is killing people like crazy,” said Prudence McCabe, a Brooklyn Park resident of Liberian heritage. “Everyone is trying to call family members … we are trying to send money right away. … All we can do is pray and be helpful.”

Bergen American Al Qaeda Suicide Bomber Syria, Seconds before he detonated the massive truck bomb that killed him and a number of Syrian soldiers two months ago, Moner Mohammad Abu-Salha radioed other fighters in al Qaeda to say, “I see paradise and I can smell paradise.”
That in itself may not be unusual. But what should focus our attention is the identity of the bomber — he was an American.

The son of a Palestinian father and an Italian-American mother, Abu-Salha grew up in Vero Beach, Florida, where he played high school football.

Abu-Salha, who was 22, is the first American suicide bomber known to have died in Syria.

On Monday, an al Qaeda-affiliated group in Syria released a half-hour videotape in which Abu-Salha explained his rationale for the impending suicide mission.

Bill Clinton: I ‘Could Have Killed’ Bin Laden, Just hours before the September 11, 2001 attack on the United States, former President Bill Clinton allegedly said he “could have killed” Osama bin Laden, but decided against it due to the number of civilians who also would have been killed.

On Wednesday, Sky News host Paul Murray aired a previously unreleased audio recording of Clinton speaking to a group of Australian businessman on September 10, 2001. The former president of Australia’s Liberal Party, Michael Kroger, was in attendance at the Melbourne event, and appeared on Murray’s program to unveil the tape.

“Osama bin Laden — he’s a very smart guy, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about him, and I nearly got him once,” Clinton says in the tape, answering a question about t*rror*sm. “I nearly got him. And I could have gotten, I could have killed him, but I would have to destroy a little town called Kandahar in Afghanistan and kill 300 innocent women and children. And then I would have been no better than him. And so I didn’t do it.”

Her grandfather, with whom she had a very close relationship, died last week.

“I personally felt like I’ve been not as appreciative as I could be of the music success I wanted all my life because I’ve been distracted by my grandfather and his health and this being such a dark time,” she said in an interview.

Grande said she hasn’t had much time to “sit back and realize and just enjoy” her musical breakthrough, and what’s coming next may not allow any time for it.
