Charlie Brown Great Pumpkin

October 31, 2011 by

Charlie Brown Great Pumpkin, “Never jump into a pile of leaves with a wet vacuum cleaner.” This sage advice comes from one of the primary school kids smarter than ever. I am, of course, Linus Van Pelt talking about.

He says that in the classic “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” a television special that always watch for these dates. If you can not tell from my picture, I’m a fan of Charlie Brown. Although I am not a fan of Halloween, which has this tradition because I think the television special to be very funny and wise.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this classic, the show focuses on the Peanuts gang preparing for Halloween. His plan is to go trick-or-treating and then go to Violet’s party.

Meanwhile, Linus persuades Sally to wait with him in “The Pumpkin Patch deepest in the world” and wait for the Great Pumpkin to appear. Linus believes that the Great Pumpkin to be a Halloween version of Santa Claus. According to Linus, the Great Pumpkin rises from the pumpkin patch visits and pumpkin patches sincere and gives toys to children. Everyone calls him crazy, including his bossy older sister Lucy.

What I find so compelling about Linus is that although all mocked him and told him he was crazy and wasting time on a crazy idea, he remained true to their beliefs, even at the end when the Great Pumpkin does not show and Sally yells at him for losing her Halloween. He went against the grain, and that’s something everyone can relate to.

How many times have you had a pulse and then acted accordingly and were criticized by their peers? Or how about when he had the momentum, but not applied because they were afraid of how others would react? I think we all have something to learn from Linus Van Pelt.

Lucy Van Pelt is another character in this series that always makes me smile. For most of the special, which is bossy, controlling, and right smack in the middle. However, out into the garden at 4 am to get Linus, took him in, took his shoes and put him to bed. Although she thinks he is a fool, she’s still the older sister of Linus and still has to take care of it. Since I grew up with an older sister who was very much like Lucy, now makes the show much more attractive.

I’ve never personally enjoyed Halloween so much. I never liked trick-or-treating, or dressing like a child. I understand that this is nonsense. I’ve been trying to figure out for years, and I’m sure it’s a psychological response to it. However, there are a lot of people of all ages who live for Halloween, and to them I say Happy Halloween, safe, and keep an eye on the Great Pumpkin.
