Blackberry Down:JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — E-mail service on BlackBerry mobile devices was interrupted Thursday morning. A spokesman for Sprint confirmed to Channel 4 that BlackBerry e-mail service is out across North America.
Blackberry users from other carriers also report the e-mail outage.
Research In Motion, the maker of BlackBerries, confirmed that its technicians are working on the problem, which they call delays in e-mail reception.
RIM said that BlackBerry users can send and receive phone calls and surf the Web and use text messaging. Only e-mail service is affected.
Twitter posts and a BlackBerry-user Web site dispute RIM’s statement, staying text messaging is also out, and some report the outage began as early as 3 a.m.
The last major BlackBerry outage — in February 2008 — was a three-hour disruption caused by an upgrade to RIM’s wireless system.
