Texas Warrant Roundup, Authorities across the area and state will be arresting people on Saturday with outstanding warrants as a part of the Great Texas Warrant Round-Up.

The Houston Police Department is among more than 260 law enforcement agencies participating in the round-up.

Police will visit thousands of homes, businesses or schools looking for everyone from felons to those with unpaid speeding tickets.

“With the assistance of law enforcement, we fully intend to use the entire scope of our resources, and we want to make everyone aware that ignoring your court matter is not an acceptable practice,” Presiding Judge Barbara E. Hartle.

More than 300,000 people have outstanding warrants in the city of Houston alone.

Anyone with an outstanding warrant is encouraged to pay their fines and reschedule a court date as soon as possible.

Texas Warrant Round-UP, Police officers from 250 North Texas cities are giving wanted criminals an easy way out — turn yourself in before we come to find you.

The North Texas Annual Warrant Round Up is a coordinated, regional effort to collect fines associated with outstanding arrest warrants.

The majority of the wanted people have been cited for traffic violations and other nonviolent offenses.

Each city is handling the program differently, but there is a common theme — it is better to come in on your own than for a police officer to come arrest you.

“The reason for doing this is it’s so inconvenient for someone that’s been issued a warrant to be out in traffic, have a warrant, have to come to jail and take care of it,” Garland Officer Joe Harn said. “This is an easy and simple way to get that off your record and get it done.”

Chief Judge Robert Beasley of the Garland Municipal Court has scheduled a special docket for Friday morning to allow people to appear before the court and avoid immediate arrest. The special court session runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Garland Municipal Court Building, 1791 W. Ave. B.

The program will be available only during that time. After that, Garland city marshals and Garland police officers will be out making arrests.

“It’s going to be a concentrated effort, not this weekend but next,” Harn told NBC 5. “Everybody’s going to be out, going door to door, knocking on people’s doors to take care of these warrants. And so now’s the time to do it, when it’s easy and you don’t go to jail.”

In Dallas, city marshals are warning that those with warrants are subject to a hold being placed on the renewal of their vehicle registrations with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, or being arrested and jailed.

People in Dallas with outstanding citations can pay their fines in person at 106 S. Harwood St. between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. next Monday through Friday.
