Strong winds and low relative humidity of Lee Tropical storm caused numerous forest fires that spread rapidly Sunday, according to the TFS. That, combined with dry vegetation, created the perfect cocktail for grassfires.

The prospects of fire for the North Texas remains bleak Monday with a red flag warning of fire in the critical place for the entire metropolitan area and much of the state. Stronger winds, which fed more than 50 grassfires in north Texas on Sunday, is expected to weaken most of the state Monday night.

Despite the growing threat, the firefighters in northern Texas were able to contain another 15 percent of the Ranch fire near Possum Kingdom Lake 101 over the weekend. The fire is now said to have consumed 6555 acres and containing 75 percent, according to the Texas Forest Service. The fire is located mainly in the south side of the lake near the city of Brad.
