Nursing Board Exam 2012, Students of a private ANM (Auxilliary Nursing Midwife) training institute tried to obstruct the annual examination of ANMs being conducted by the Nursing Examination Board, Odisha, at Jeypore on Monday. Few students were injured during a tussle with police deployed at the examination centre.

Around 25 agitating students of Florence Nightingale ANM Training Institute alleged that though they took admission during 2007-08 and 2008-09 academic session for the 18 months course, they are yet to appear for the annual examination while junior batches have already passed out.

According to official sources, these students could not appear for the test because the Indian Nursing Council did not give them registration number because the institute had admitted more students than its intake capacity. “Though we have approached officials concerned and the district administration to sort out the problem, nothing has happened so far,” reads the memorandum submitted by the agitating students to the administration on Monday.

The students allege that though the Orissa High Court in a recent interim judgment had asked the institute and the state government to fill up the forms for the examination that started on January 30, 2012 and allow us to appear for the session 2007-08 and 2008-2009, the officials have not adhered to it.

“We had filed a writ petition and the court had directed the institute authorities and the state government to allow us to appear examination but not to publish our results without the High Court’s leave,” the students said. “Our lives have been spoiled due to the apathetic attitude of the officials concerned. For the past three years we are running from pillar to post,” they added.
