While the right track “was not in our business plan,” the Spencleys, who opened his business in 2002, have found that going to fairs and festivals has made to keep your business going “much easier,” said Dave Spencley.

“We decided to take our product to where the people,” said Spencley.

This is the first year have settled in Lenawee County Fair.

“We think it best to try,” said Spencley.

Sales of the opening day of the show were “average,” he said. It expects sales to increase later in the week as the crowds gather.

Bestsellers from the couple at the fairs are nostalgic advertising signs, such as Detroit-Monkeys Special Fink, Evinrude boat motors, Nehi soda, Coca-Cola or stations, Spencley said.

The “cave man” novelty sign, a list of “rules” as “my cave, my rules” and “forbidden Chick Flicks” is also a bestseller, he said.

Other products include stand-up cutouts of pop culture figures like Michael Jackson or Justin Bieber.

During the summer, the couple brings their candles to the heat, Spencley said.

Being present at trade fairs attended by sometimes-store sales so people are aware of his business, he said.

“We find people who do not even know you had a business downtown,” said Spencley.

The Spencleys often go from fair to fair in conjunction with Harold and Katie Grubbs Adriano, selling jewelry, blankets, hats and bags. They are next to each other in the Lenawee County Fair.

“Usually, people come, they come to buy something,” said Harold Grubbs fair circuit.

David Grubbs and Harold Spencley are former employees of the plant is now closed Adrian Dura Convertible Systems.

In general, we found out on the road to go to fairs and festivals valuable to the company, Spencley said.

“I have not been to a fair or festival that was not good,” he said.
