Jeremy MayfieldJeremy Mayfield, Attorney Jeremy Mayfield Mayfield said he had no knowledge of the stolen items or property methamphetamine leading to his arrest on Tuesday.

Mayfield was charged with one felony count of possession of methamphetamine after police found 1.5 grams of methamphetamine that he believes in his property, according to a Catawba County (NC) Sheriff’s incident report.

The drug was found, while four law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant for stolen goods in the home of Mayfield, who in the past has declared more than 400 acres. It is approximately 100,000 and stolen goods, according to a Lincoln County (NC) Sheriff’s news release from the Office. The district attorney’s office will determine if charges are brought for possession of stolen property.

Attorney Daniel Marino Mayfield issued a statement late Tuesday:

“Yesterday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Department Catawba County searched the home of Jeremy Mayfield,” the statement said. “Mr. Mayfield understands that the purpose of the search was to seize assets allegedly stolen and that researchers claim to have seized methamphetamine in his home.

“Mr. Mayfield is not aware of any property stolen or that methamphetamine is on your property and denies the accusation that he was in possession of methamphetamine or any other illegal drug and denies any suggestion that he knowingly received or possession of stolen property. ”

Marino also represents former NASCAR driver in his lawsuit against NASCAR during his suspension by May 1, 2009 failed drug test. NASCAR says Mayfield tested positive for methamphetamine, but Mayfield said it was a false positive allergy medications to counter and prescription drugs for hyperactivity disorder attention deficit disorder.

That lawsuit is currently on the U.S. Court of Appeals with the next hearing in January at the earliest.

Marino’s statement Tuesday said Mayfield is cooperating with authorities. Next date of hearing in Mayfield drug charge is scheduled for November 14.

“This search was motivated by what the evidence shows were unfounded allegations by an unreliable source,” the statement said. “Mr. Mayfield and his attorneys are cooperating with authorities and hope that this matter be resolved quickly. Meanwhile, Mr. Mayfield asked to reserve its ruling on this matter.”
