Gilbert Arenas Deal, After sitting out the entire season, 6-3 guard Gilbert Arenas has found a home with the Memphis Grizzlies. Arenas, who last played for the Orlando Magic before being waived via the one-time amnesty clause before the season, was signed to a pro-rated, one-year deal with the Grizzlies.

Arenas, 30, averages 21.2 points for his career but hasn’t been close to that over a full season since 2006-07 with the Washington Wizards. The Grizzlies (25-18 entering Tuesday) had the NBA’s 19th-ranked offense at 95.1 points per game as they prepared to play the Sacramento Kings.

Under fourth-year coach Lionel Hollins, Memphis grinds out victories by pounding the ball inside to All-Star post players Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol and playing tough defense (ninth entering Tuesday, allowing 93.1 points per game).

Randolph, who missed almost three months with a knee injury, returned with 25 points and nine rebounds in a loss Friday to the Toronto Raptors and followed with 13 points and nine rebounds in Sunday’s win vs. the Wizards. Hollins adjusted the offense in his absence, using more pick-and-rolls with point guard Mike Conley.

Randolph didn’t even realize Arenas would be joining the team but was almost giddy for the boost to the backcourt from the veteran guard.

“Gilbert is a great player. He’s been through the storms,” Randolph said of Arenas’ playoff experience with the Wizards from 2003-10. “I know him personally. He’s going to help out our team a lot. …

“He didn’t get going in Orlando. Here, he’ll have a chance. He still can play. We needed a guy like Gilbert who can handle, can penetrate, can get in the lane.”
