Altidore had a chance 20 minutes from time as a lot of pace in a shot from inside the area but the ball went straight to goalkeeper beaten.

However, Americans continued to press forward and got their equalizer as Altidore nodded a long ball down the path of Bradley, whose half-volley crashing past the goalkeeper from near the penalty spot.

The winner came close three minutes later when Donovan’s free kick was knocked home from close range by Edu, but it mysteriously ruled out.
