Sportsbook.com Odds to win the NCAA title – 50 / 1

NCAA Basketball – Gonzaga Preview
Key players added – Marquise Carter, Hyland Keegan, Olynyk, Kelly
Key player’s lost-Matt Bouldin

Last season, Gonzaga did not roll through the West Coast Conference as they are accustomed to, but they still won the championship. They were somewhat overshadowed by the conference foe St. Mary’s that made the Sweet 16 in the Big Dance last season while Gonzaga only has he done for the second round. However, the Bulldogs might be better this season and they are favorites to win their 11th straight WCC title.

The Zags return 4 starters, but the one they lost is a great PG in Matt Bouldin, who was the WCC player of the year. Gonzaga’s head coach Mark Few said recently, “It will be difficult because we ran everything by Matt (Bouldin). We probably are more of a team inside out. ”

F Elias Harris (14.9 ppg 7.1 rpg last season) is the first candidate to win the conference player of the year this season and is a very athletic player and will probably be a difficult choice of first round NBA when he left school.

The Bulldogs also return G Steven Gray (13 ppg last season) and 7-foot C Robert Sacre (10.3 points per game 5.4 rebounds per game), and these guys with Harris gave the Zags a formidable trio who can score from inside and outside. Coronation is about to become one of the best big men in the country and the score may Gray, but he was inconsistent in its long-range shooting last season and will find its range for the Bulldogs to go far in the big dance. Both Gray and Harris have been selected to the list of pre-season wooden top 50 players in the nation.

The fourth starter is returning Demetri Goodson (6.4 ppg last season), which is an outsourcer perfect for the Zags, as it is a great defensive player who does not seek a lot of shots. It’s a good thing, because it is not a good outside shooter.

Even those who return the key guy this season may be juco transfer Marquise Carter, who takes over the position for Bouldin PG. Carter will be counted to produce right away, especially the distribution of the ball to the trio above. It will also be helped by real rookie David Stockton, who is the son of another decent Gonzaga PG John Stockton.

The Bulldogs are deep inside this season, not only with Harris and the Sacred, but with more contributions from 7-footer Kelly Olynyk and 6’9 “redshirt rookie Sat Dower. However, a major weakness of the Bulldogs Last season was their 3-point shooting. If they fight again shooting teams will stack deep inside to stop the big men to dominate the paint. Last season, the Bulldogs shot only 35.3% beyond the 3-pt arc and they shot 66.4% from the foul line. Shooting charity band may be even worse this season since he left and Bouldin was the best free-throw shooter this season last.

Gonzaga is stacked and they play a very unselfish type of basketball. The MLS is a big issue, but Carter has the skills and Stockton has the pedigree.

The Bulldogs play a schedule of the season very difficult at first to face three teams ranked in the top 25 in the State of Kansas # 3, # 16 Illinois and # 14 Baylor and difficult tests at Notre Dame Xavier, Oklahoma State, Wake Forrest.

Surprising stat: Gonzaga has won 10 straight conference titles, which is the longest active sequence in the nation.
Strengths: Depth, team play, the size and number of marking options.
Weaknesses: 3-point shooting, free throws, a situation unknown PG.
Big Dance? Certainly

Gonzaga Win forecast for 2010-11 total

Last season, the Bulldogs have won 27 games and their players back they will increase this season and be within 30 total victories.

Robbie Hummel

Robbie Hummel, Toughtest This is the news of the college basketball fans could digest this morning. Fresh from the Midnight Madness Festivitas throughout the country, the current season in some regard and felt it was time to size up the competition. But today FoxSports.com ‘s Jeff Goodman reported that studies Robbie Hummel Purdue broke the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during practice this morning …. yes, the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee itself, which began in Februray 24. Is the platform for the entire 2010-2011 season.

Goodman piece went on to say just how awful this is for a disinterested child a lot of talent who do not have the opportunity to compete ”

Since I broke into this business, I have always tried to be objective. He grew up in Boston, was never a towel-waver of any of the local teams. I took lots of photos at my alma mater, Arizona, in recent years.

But this does not require objectivity.

The calls and texts arrived at a furious pace after the news around noon on Saturday – their rival Big Ten coach and head and assistant coaches around the country.

Pick your adjective.

Unfair. Devastating. Horrible.

It is even difficult to Google “Robbie Hummel” at the moment and I feel horrible, like the senior boilermaker was officially approved to return to action just a week ago. Amazing how a news source can turn sour so quickly.

Hummel is likely to redshirt and get a fifth year of eligibility for 2011-2012. But this was the year for the club Matt Painter. The trio of Hummel, JaJuan Johnson and Moore E’Taun should develop their games together and fight for a national title when they became seniors. They have had two years to get together, but both have been derailed by injuries.

Do not try to convince me of the Boilermakers will be fine. Without Hummel, who is a sweet 16 in the better team. The whole thing is really disappointing.

Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin Badgers, MADISON, Wisconsin – J.J. Watt was no guarantee that his college football career will continue beyond their first year at Central Michigan. He just believed.

Not many others did, and the fact that the best Badgers’ pass rush was delivering pizzas and cleaning floors as a slightly considers that it had moved away from a college program is where Watt’s career could be over.

Wisconsin coach Bret Bieleman Watts gave an opportunity and the W and 6 feet 6 was not ashamed to make some bold predictions.

“I’ll never forget, he asked me what I had to do to win a scholarship,” said Bieleman. “I said, ‘You gotta be in the two deep, or the rotation of big game.” He said, ‘Coach, I’ll be there at the end of spring ball. “And that’s exactly where I was. He was given a scholarship and has been a good story since then.”

It was a good story, even before that date and did not seem possible when Watt was in high school and looking at Division III schools instead of looking on the offensive line No. 1 Ohio State, when he takes the field Saturday night at Camp Randall Stadium.

“The thing people ask is, ‘Do you want to change your route to get here. If you could come to New York immediately, right?” I always say no because the process took me from high school all the problems of recruitment for Central Michigan to Wisconsin, was like a character generator, “said Watt. “It taught me perseverance and what kind of work ethic that must have to succeed.

“I’m working at Pizza Hut;. I’m paying my way in Wisconsin for an entire year, only the hope of winning a scholarship There was no guarantee that there was even a spot on the team.”

Watt initially committed to Minnesota before going back and forth between the Chippewa and the Gophers, Bieleman said. The school was not interested? Wisconsin.

“I know that in the process of recruiting high school evaluated him, and probably shows how well the evaluators to be, not project as a scholarship player,” said Bieleman.

Watt even looks the part now after playing a season as a tight end for the then Central Michigan coach Butch Jones before leaving the program was an opportunity not sure that the program even would. He moved to New York defensive end.

“Coach B, fortunately, gave me a place. I won a scholarship, earned a starting place and now here I am. It’s like a dream come true,” said Watt. “When I was in high school, I was watching (Division III schools) Oshkosh, I was looking into Whitewater, only the hope of being able to play football. Now here I am, playing for the Wisconsin Badgers. It is a incredible privilege and honor and love. ”

Watt acknowledges that night, his mind wandered as he waited for his chance.

“Some of them do not have much time. Some of them are not bad. I started thinking to myself: ‘Am I really going to be good enough when I go to Wisconsin, it’s all worth it?” But then again I always think yes, yes, it’s worth. Yes, you pay. I look back now and all those hard nights worth 100 times more. This is more of an incredible experience that everything I have seen in my life, “said Watt. “It was not easy, but it was something I had to do to get where they wanted to be.”

Watt leads the team with 8 1 / 2 tackles for loss and is tied for second with 30 tackles. He also has two sacks, 12 passes broken or diverted, a fumble and a blocked punt.

It is also fanatical film watcher – the study of the likes of NFL stars Jared Allen, Dwight Freeney and Clay Matthews. Also look at your partner, including Cameron Heyward final Buckeyes and Iowa Adrian Clayborn, Heyward will see on the evening of Saturday, October 23 Clayborn.

Ohio State, Jim Tressel puts seekers watts between the conference’s best pass.

“There are some really good, but in my mind, Watts agrees with many of those guys,” Tressel said. “It’s very difficult for a tight end to handle when you have to block.”

Watt has been strengthened through conditioning, but there is a menu item rushes down when he meets with his friends.

“Definitely not eat pizza again,” he said. “I stay away from that to keep the figure clean.”

Rutgers, this game wondering what was easily the most impressive victory of the season when they upset conference rival UConn last weekend at home.

She scored 10 points in the final four minutes to steal the win.

Seriously though, the story of that game was the emergence of true freshman quarterbacks Chas Dodd. Only a few weeks ago, Dodd was happy to be there first, with a clipboard and signaling in plays with sophomore Tom Savage. But when Savage went with an injury two weeks ago, Dodd got in, and Rutgers had there best win of the year.

Simply put, Dodd was phenomenal last weekend when he completed 18 of 29 going for 322 yards and a touchdown as the Scarlet Knights sprung the region. That only touchdown was a big, as he threw a 52 yard pass to junior Mark Harrison to tie the game at 24 late in the fourth quarter. A San San Te field goal sealed the victory in the final seconds.

But despite the big victory, the Scarlet Knights have a test when they host NCAA Football Line underdog Army on Saturday. So far this year, the Army received little respect nationally, despite their 4-2 mark, and three victories in their last four games.

“I’m better jump, I’m able to dunk again, and I’m moving well,” Hummel said in a speech at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County in Indiana, according to La Tribune Post. “I feel very good where I am. I’m ready for the season begins, as is everything else.”

Hummel had surgery on his knee on March 8 and was still limited in what he could do when individual team workouts began in late August.

“I can do whatever I want,” said Hummel. “I was allowed to (play five against five), but I have not yet done. I think it will probably be next week. A few days ago, when (Shelbourne) said: “You C is off, I give you the OK to play,” it does not go there tomorrow and play open gym. I think that means starting to play some one-on-one, two against two, three on three, and become familiar with it. Because now it still feels almost foreign to the race and move because I have not done for so long. I have put my feet back under me. But I feel good where I m. ”

Post-Tribune also reported that Hummel since he could only lift weights for a while during his recovery, he added 10-15 pounds of muscle to his frame of 230 pounds.

Now, he hopes that all work during the offseason will pay off with a trip to the Final Four for a Boilermakers team that is one of the most talented of the nation.

“This is our last go-around,” he said. “Me, E’Twaun (Moore) and Jajuan (Johnson) to realize that. We want to do something special, we want to do together. That’s why these guys decided to come back (after having declared for the NBA Draft but not hiring an agent). “
