The couple spent the weekend at Demi’s ex-husband’s getaway in the Turks and Caicos Islands to spend some quality time together.

The pair’s relationship has been rocked by the recent accusations made by 22-year-old Sara Leal that Ashton had sex with her at a San Diego hotel room in September and they have been trying to reconnect.

A source told UsMagazine.com: “Things have been very strained. [But] they’re trying to figure things out.”

Despite the affair allegations, Ashton, 33, and Demi, 49, have been working hard to repair their marriage and are determined to stay together.

The ‘Two and a Half Men’ actor recently landed in hot water after writing an ill advised comment on twitter seemingly defending NFL coach Joe Paterno – who was fired for allegedly covering up child abuse by his assistant coach – and has now stopped tweeting.

He said: “As of immediately I will stop tweeting until I find a way to properly manage this feed. I feel awful about this error … A collection of over 8 million followers is not to be taken for granted. I’m going to turn the management of the feed over to my team at Katalyst Media to ensure the quality of its content.
