2012 NISSAN Altima, Nissan is recalling 976 2012 Nissan Altima and Versa sedans to fix a side curtain airbag problem, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“These vehicles may be equipped with side curtain airbags that contain an incorrect propellant mixture for the initiator component used, resulting in insufficient output of compressed gas,” said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. “The side curtain airbags may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury.”

Nissan said no other Nissan vehicles are affected by this recall. It attributed the recall to a “supplier error” by Autoliv.

The Nissan recall is linked to similar issues that have been identified by NHTSA and other manufacturers. Toyota, Honda and Subaru recalled vehicles for similar airbag issues recently, said NHTSA.

Nissan dealers will replace one or both side curtain airbag modules. The recall is expected to begin on February 27. Owners can contact Nissan at 615-725-1000.

Inside Line says: If you own a 2012 Nissan Versa or Altima, be aware that a recall is in the works.

2012 Nissan Altima2012 Nissan Altima, There are a number of hybrid cars on the road today and perhaps the least known of them all comes from Nissan Altima Hybrid with. The Altima hybrid was sold only in a few markets in the United States and has thrown for model year 2012. However, the hybrid model is expected to return in accordance with GreenCarReports.

One bit of evidence pointing to the Altima Hybrid reinforced by a return is the opening of a new Nissan Xtronic CVT transmission and a new hybrid system that is designed for front-wheel drive vehicles. The only vehicle in the Nissan family with a hybrid powertrain developed by Nissan’s rear wheel drive Infiniti M35h.

The Altima Hybrid utilizes a suspended version of the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive system found in older Camry and hybrid Prius.

The new transmission and a hybrid system may be used in almost every engine in the Nissan line four-cylinder covering V6 engines. The hybrid system has a single electric motor between the engine and the CVT to help reduce energy consumption and hybrid EV mode only for a short time. Nissan’s hybrid system uses a lithium ion battery compact.

AutoWeek reports that the new CVT transmission should be able to improve fuel economy by 10% only compared to the higher transmission by reducing internal friction. The base engine in the hybrid powertrain is a 2.5L four-cylinder engine with a compressor. The compressor allows the engine offers similar power comparable to a V6 engine.

The new transmission is expected to debut next year in the fifth-generation Altima.
