David Wilkerson Killed

David Wilkerson Killed, Rev. David Wilkerson, founding pastor of Times Square Church in New York and author of the popular book The Cross and the Switchblade, was killed Wednesday in a collision in Texas. He was 79.
“It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the sudden death of Rev. David Wilkerson, our founding pastor,” the Times Square Church Pastor Carter Conlon said in a statement on the website of the church.
Wilkerson was headed east on U.S. Texas 175 in the afternoon, and moved to the opposite lane where a tractor-trailer was heading west. The truck driver saw the car and tried to move off the road, but hit the car head pastor on, according to Public Safety Trooper Eric Long.
It is unclear what caused Wilkerson to veer into another lane. His wife Gwen was also involved in the accident and rushed to hospital, along with the driver of the truck.
Wilkerson posted a blog dated April 27th – the day of his death. In the message entitled “When All Else Fails Media”, which encouraged the difficulties she faces to “hold” and strong position in the faith.
“For those who pass through the valley of the shadow of death, hear this word: Crying will last through some dark nights, horrible, and in that darkness would soon be heard Father whisper:” I am with you, ‘”Wilkerson wrote. Beloved, God has never stopped acting, but in the goodness and love. When all the evidence of their love prevails. Hold on to your faith. Firm in his Word. There is no hope in this world. ”
Wilkerson Rich Wilkerson cousin confirmed dead in Twitter.
“It confirms my dear cousin David Wilkerson was killed in a tragic car accident this afternoon. R Prayers needed now,” Twitter it.
Rev. Wilkerson spent the first part of his ministry to reach gang members and drug addicts in New York as told in his bestselling book The Cross and the Switchblade.
“The word legend is often used to describe a person of extreme influence, but what about a man who replaces David Wilkerson superlatives.” tweeted his cousin after confirming his death.
In 1971, he started World Challenge, Inc., as an umbrella for his crusades, conferences, evangelism and ministry of others. The Times Square Church was founded in the group in 1987.
The church is now led by Pastor Carter Conlon and has over 8,000 members.
Wilkerson also founded Teen Challenge, a Christian outreach program for troubled youth.
“Please remember the Wilkerson family in your prayers as our founder, the Rev. David Wilkerson, went to be with the Lord tonight,” said Teen Challenge Twitter followers.
His wife, four children and 11 grandchildren survive him.
