Washington Post Film Critic Suggested Seth Rogens Movie Inspired Elliot Rodger, SETH Rogen has tweeted that he’s “horribly insulted” by an article that suggested his movies may have influenced the behaviour of Elliot Rodger who went on a murderous spree in the US on the weekend.

In The Washington Post , film critic Ann Hornaday wrote that “mass entertainment has been overwhelmingly controlled by white men, whose escapist fantasies so often revolve around vigilantism and sexual wish-fulfilment (often, if not always, featuring a steady through-line of casual misogyny).”

She singled out Seth Rogen and producer Judd Apatow in the article that tried to explain the motivation behind Elliot Rodger’s shooting spree which saw six people lose their lives in California.

“How many students watch outsized frat-boy fantasies like Neighbours (released in Australia as Bad Neighbours) and feel, as Rodger did, unjustly shut-out of college life that should be full of ‘sex and fun and pleasure’?” Hornaday wrote.

“How many men, raised on a steady diet of Judd Apatow comedies in which the shlubby arrested adolescent always gets the girl, find that those happy endings constantly elude them and conclude, ‘It’s not fair’?

“Movies may not reflect reality, but they powerfully condition what we desire, expect and feel we deserve from it.”

In response to the op-ed, Rogen tweeted that Hornaday was “misinformed” while Judd Apatow lashed out, saying Hornaday “uses tragedy to promote herself with idiotic thoughts”.

.@AnnHornaday I find your article horribly insulting and misinformed.

.@AnnHornaday how dare you imply that me getting girls in movies caused a lunatic to go on a rampage.

“@melissa5001: @Sethrogen @marshallsheldon @AnnHornaday why is it always everything but mental illness?” Because that doesn’t sell papers.
