Warren Beatty Sister Shirley MacLaine, What do Warren Beatty and Shirley MacLaine have in common? Their parents; they are brother and sister. Their mother, Kathlyn MacLean Beaty, was a drama teacher who aspired to be an actor. Their father, Ira O. Beaty, was also an educator; his areas of expertise were philosophy and psychology.

Shirley MacLaine was born April 24, 1934, in Richmond, Virginia. Henry Warren Beatty came along three years later, on March 10, 1937.

Both Warren Beatty and Shirley MacLaine went on to become successful professional actors, directors and producers. Warren Beatty has been nominated for several Academy Awards, and received the Irving G. Thalburg Memorial Award from the Academy in 2000. He was nominated for Best Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Picture and Best Writing for two films: “Heaven Can Wait” (1978) and “Reds” (1981). He won the Oscar for Best Director for “Reds” in 1982.

Shirley MacLaine has also been nominated for several Academy Awards, and won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her work in “Terms of Endearment” (1983). MacLaine is also the author of several autobiographical books, including “Sage-ing While Age-ing,” “Out on a Leash, The Camino: A Journey of the Spirit,” and “Don’t Fall off the Mountain.”
