Utd Reject Rooney Bid

Utd Reject Rooney Bid, Chelsea have reacted furiously to suggestions they were willing to include either Juan Mata or David Luiz as a make-weight in a prospective deal for Wayne Rooney after their initial straight cash offer for the England striker, thought to be worth around £20m, was rejected.
The opening bid for the 27-year-old was tabled on Tuesday and immediately knocked back by the Premier League champions, who have since indicated they are not willing to sell Rooney to their title rivals. That resolve could yet be tested by an improved offer for a player who has made it clear he wishes to move on, with Stamford Bridge believed to be his favoured destination, though relations between the two clubs have now been severely damaged by the episode.
Chelsea felt compelled to release a statement on Wednesday after reports circulated initially from Manchester, but then taken up in Sydney where United are currently on pre-season tour, claiming they had offered £10m plus either Mata or Luiz for the forward. Neither player is currently with the squad in Thailand having been granted further time off after their participation in the recent Confederations Cup, and have therefore not met their new manager José Mourinho face to face.
