UConn Shocked

January 6, 2013 by

UConn Shocked, Yesterday’s sports scores saw no. 1 Uconn shocked by the Notre Dame women’s basketball team. The game was televised on CBS and gave the Huskies their first loss for the Big East and regular season.

A report from ESPN.com on Jan. 5 gives details on the impressive win by the #5 ranked Irish, 73-72. It was thanks to Notre Dame’s Skylar Diggins that she and her team were able to hang in the game in the second half, and ultimately pull off the shocking 1 point victory. She hit back-to-back three point shots in the half to keep things within reach. Her best points were yet to come though.

Skylar was fouled with her team down 1 point in the final 49 seconds of the game, and proceeded to hit two crucial free throws to give Notre Dame the lead. With no points scored after those, it was the deciding factor in the game.

Post-game, Coach Muffet McGraw gave her thoughts on pulling off a win:

“How many times can we put up our defense. I thought about our football team getting that goal line stand (against Stanford) three times in a row, if they can do it, we can do it.”
