Top 10 Most Stolen Cars 2013, The Honda Accord is a favorite among car thieves, leading a list of the 10 most stolen and recovered vehicles for 2013.
Right behind the Accord is the Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla and Chevrolet Silverado, according to a list released by LoJack Corp. The list is based on thefts of cars equipped with LoJack recovery systems.
It’s the fifth year in a row the Accord has topped LoJack’s list.
Rounding out the top 10 for 2013 are the Acura Integra, Cadillac Escalade, Ford F350, Nissan Altima and Chevrolet Tahoe.
USA Today points out a few surprises on the list, noting that the Integra remains among the most stolen cars even though it was last available in the U.S. as a sedan or coupe in 2001. Also notable: Although the F150 is Ford’s most popular truck, the F350 makes the top 10 stolen and recovered list.
In 2011, the most-stolen vehicle in America was the Dodge Charger, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Accord ranked 95th on the NHTSA list. However, the NHTSA list dealt only with 2011 model-year vehicles.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reported the Ford F250 led its list of stolen vehicles for 2012. All of the vehicles on the IIHS’ list were pickup trucks or SUVs.
A bit of good news for Ohio residents: The state is not in LoJack’s top 10 for vehicle thefts. California had the most thefts and recoveries in 2013, followed by Texas, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Arizona, Georgia and Washington.
The Accord also leads the list of stolen and recovered new cars in 2013, LoJack reports. The Corolla, Ford F250, Honda Civic, and Toyota Tacoma and Ford F150 (tie) finish the top five.
