Prosecutor to release video of Irvo Otieno’s death, Next week, prosecutors in Virginia are set to release a video that resulted in the arrest of seven deputies and three state mental hospital employees on charges of second-degree murder in the death of a man who was handcuffed and shackled.
The family of Irvo Otieno was able to view the video of his death on Thursday and has given their consent for it to be made public in the coming days, according to Dinwiddie County Commonwealth’s Attorney Ann Cabell Baskervill, as reported by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
The family’s lawyers described the 12-minute video to the media as a harrowing depiction of deputies pressing down on and suffocating Otieno, a Black man who was restrained in both his arms and legs.
Attorney Mark Krudys stated, “You can see that they’re putting their back into it. Every part of his body is being pushed down with absolute brutality.”
Prosecutors claim that 28-year-old Otieno did not exhibit any signs of aggression and was seated in a chair when the officers pulled him down.
