Von Trapp Family, Chicago – The cast of the 1965 film The Sound of Music appear in Friday’s Oprah Winfrey Show to commemorate the 45 anniversary of the liberation of one of the most beloved musicals in film history.
In tribute to the lasting success of the film, which on 2 November, forty-five years after its original release, will be released on Blu-Ray, actors, Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, and the actors who play the children Captain von Trapp, were invited to a special episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show.
The movie The Sound of Music, where Julie Andrews was an aspiring nun who fell in love with Captain Von Trapp Austria, played by Christopher Plummer, during the rise of Nazism, was nominated for 10 Oscars and won five, including Best Picture and Best Director (Robert Wise), and Best Editing, Music and Sound.
The sound of music has been criticized for being too sweet. It has been called pejoratively, cheesy, syrupy, saccharine and sugar. It is also considered too long (177 minutes), simplistic, predictable and overly dramatic. However, it also has been recognized by film critics and a wider audience as the best musical and one of the best films ever made and a winner in many aspects of filmmaking: the music, scenery, patriotism , and plot were good people and good villains (ie Nazis) are as bad as they come. There are plenty of songs and dances, and gentle enough romance to keep the film as an all-around family entertainment. The soundtrack CD of music in the film is one of the best-selling recordings of all time, having sold 10 million copies worldwide.
The Oprah Winfrey Show episode, which was taped, will air on Friday 29 October.
