Ricky Nolasco, Ricky Nolasco has agreed to sign a deal with the Minnesota Twins, confirms Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. The free agent right-handed starter seemed to confirm the news on his own by changing his Twitter AVI to a Twins logo Wednesday evening.

The deal is a four-year pact worth $49 million with a fifth year club option according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, making it the largest free agent contract in Twins history. Nolasco will earn $12 million annually from 2014-17, and the option is worth $13 million with a $1 million buyout. It can vest based on innings pitched from 2016-17.

The Twins headed into the offseason seeking multiple veteran starting pitchers, so Nolasco is only the first step in helping to shape the rotation heading into next season. And it’s a rotation that badly needed a makeover. The Twins ranked dead last in the majors with a 5.26 ERA, with the 29th ranked rotation ERA being 4.81.

Nolasco, 30, is an upgrade over some of the returning candidates on the Twins, though he’s hardly a frontline starter. He was 13-11 with a 3.70 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 165 strikeouts in 199 1/3 innings for the Marlins and Dodgers last season.
