Phelps 2016 Olympics, Phelps 2016 Olympics: Former rival and teammate Ryan Locthe said that Michael Phelps should compete in the 2016 Olympics.

Ryan Lochte backed former teammate and rival Michael Phelps to partake in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, even though Phelps has repeatedly stressed he is retired.

”Michael Phelps says he’s retired. The sport will miss him, he is one of my favourite rivals and I will miss him. But I think he will come back,” Lochte said at the World Short Course Championships in Istanbul, according to the Daily Telegraph on Monday.

Phelps retired last year in London after winning 22 Olympic medals over the course of his career, the most in history.

‘When you do something for so long every day … he’s still young. I think he will be back for Rio,” Lochte said. ”We’ll see, he’ll miss the sport.”

But Lochte acknowledged that Phelps might simply want to live a “normal life” free from the countless hours of swimming training.

Phelps last week again reiterated that he would not compete in the Rio Olympics.

Phelps 2016 Olympics, Michael Phelps was in Rio last week, but he was only there to pick up an award for past accomplishments, not set the stage for new ones.

Phelps was in Brazil to pick up the Exceptional Achievement Award at the Laureus World Sports Awards last week, and he took the time to reiterate that his remarkable swimming career was at an end.

“It has been an amazing career and it is crazy to think that it is over,” Phelps said, while accepting his award. “But I’ve done everything that I wanted to do in sport.”

“I wanted to change swimming and take it to a level, and I have. But I will continue to be a part of sport and help grow sports. That is a goal and a passion of mine.”
