Mark Sanchez Injury

Mark Sanchez Injury, Mark Sanchez, the Jets’ starting quarterback since 2009, is in a battle for the job with rookie Geno Smith. On Saturday against the Giants, Smith got the start and Sanchez didn’t take the field until 11:20 to go in the fourth quarter. Two drives into his evening, Sanchez took a big hit from Giants defensive lineman Marvin Austin and ended the play on the turf grabbing his right shoulder.

Sanchez injury paves way for Smith After walking to the sidelines, Sanchez tried to throw a few passes but, according to NBC New York sideline reporter Bruce Beck, “He looked at the team doctor and said ‘I can’t do this.'”

Sanchez had X-rays after the game and was set to undergo an MRI. According to the New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta, Sanchez could be looking at a “labrum issue,” And ESPNNewYork.com’s Rich Cimini tweeted Sunday morning that “Sanchez does not have a fractured collarbone,” though the “MRI will tell the extent of any soft-tissue damage, if any.”

Either way, this could be the beginning of the end of the Sanchez era, one that was likely going to end one way or another in 2013. The problem? Smith looked like … well, a rookie quarterback making his first NFL start. His line Saturday: 16-of-30 for 199 yards, 1 TD, 3 INTs, and a safety.

If not for the Raiders and the Chargers, we could be talking about the Jets as the league’s worst team.
