First Night Boston, New Year’s Eve celebrations arts, First Night Boston are celebrating its 35th anniversary with a variety of music, film and performance throughout Boston, culminating in fireworks over the harbor at midnight. Highlights include soul singer Bettye LaVette (who performs at the Met, in Pawtucket on Thursday, see the article on page D6) and the retro soul of Jenny and Dee Deelinquents and jazz guitarist Lionel Loueke and his trio, and performance by Opera Boston and Argentine composer Fernando Otero and pianist. First Night buttons are available in gobs of places in and around downtown Boston, go to for a list of locations. First Night Boston is expected to attract over 1 million people today. For the first time, those in the crowd that emerges for the 18 buttons and have access to performances at Symphony Hall and the reopening of the Paramount Theatre Centre and modern.
That’s because this year organizers decided to reduce the number of evening performances while offering more marquee events, “said Geri Guardino, Executive Director of First Night Inc. “We have refocused our dollars”sur” anchor performance,”as a way to generate more attention, attendance and sales button, Guardino said, and really just bring First Night to a new level.” First Night Boston is still a whole day affair for all ages focusing on local artists and entertainment at low cost. But there will be fewer competing events on the night, to enhance this Guardino called mondiale”performances class, on some sites sparkling. This includes a show at Symphony Hall in Detroit headlining the soul singer Bettye Lavette, who performed at the inaugural celebration of President Obama.
