Libraries In Australia, After an exciting and challenging pilot project, the National Library of Australia is now ready to use Tessella SDB as the preservation management and digital library core system at the heart of its Digital Library Infrastructure Redevelopment (DLIR) (http://www.nla.gov.au/about-us/dlir) project. The Library is to redevelop its digital infrastructure to enable it to collect, generate, manage, preserve and provide ongoing access to the rapidly escalating volume of digital information resources that fall within its collecting mandate. This will allow the digital information entrusted to the Library to be available to use for the very long term.

The Library has selected the internationally recognised Tessella SDB product for its out-of-the-box digital preservation capabilities, which allows its internal development team to focus on organisation-specific digital library requirements.

Tessella SDB will be used by the Library to provide long-term access to digital objects, files and metadata. Tessella SDB provides assurance that the Library is able to maintain ongoing access to digital materials collected since the early 1990s – which includes newspapers, websites, pictures, music, maps, oral history and manuscripts. It is a flexible solution with configurable workflows, plug-ins and uses open source tools, which gives the Library a range of implementation options. The continuous support from Tessella as a vendor with considerable archiving and software development expertise, will complement the Library’s internal development.

Jon Tilbury, Director of Archiving Solutions at Tessella commented: “Tessella is proud to welcome the National Library of Australia into the Tessella SDB community which includes National Libraries and Memory Institutions around the world. We are looking forward to continuing our collaboration and support with the National Library of Australia team.”
