Statue Of Liberty, As many as nine people were hurt after a ferry taking passengers from the Statue of Liberty made a hard landing into a dock at Liberty Island around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said.
The Miss New Jersey Ferry boat was carrying 497 passengers with nine crew members and was arriving at Liberty Island from Jersey City when the accident happened, U.S. Coast Guard officials said.
All passengers on the boat were able to walk off the ferry on their own and no one has been taken to local hospitals for treatment, authorities said.
“We are relieved that there were no serious injuries and we are working with the National Park Service to identify the cause of the hard landing,” said Mike Burke, COO of the ferry operator Statue Cruises.
The boat suffered minor damages and was taken to Liberty Landing at Liberty State Park, officials said.
Investigators are still determining what caused the hard docking, U.S. Coast Guard officials said.
