SPIDER INVASION CLOSES BRITISH SCHOOL, Bugs, as a poisonous spider infestation has forced a school in Britain to close a week before Halloween. Dean Academy, a secondary school in Gloucestershire, southwest England, said it was closing on Wednesday to get rid of false widow spiders.
Spiders are often confused with his relative, the black widow spider, whose bite can be deadly. The school said no one has been bitten by the spider, but local health authorities have been advised to close for the day to deal with the infestation.
Experts said the Steodata nobilis, a species of false widow, are increasingly common in the UK and is the most dangerous of the 12 known species of spider bite in Britain. However, they stress that spider bites are rare in Britain, and in most cases the symptoms are mild. The spider bites may itch, swell or cause discomfort as a wasp sting, but has not been known to cause deaths.
