Sony X Headphones

Sony X Headphones, Sony X Headphones are the product line’s latest effort to tap into the noise canceling headphone market. The “hook” of Sony X Headphones is that they were designed (in part) by ‘X Factor’ host Simon Cowell. The Sony X Headphones endorsement no doubt cost the company a pretty penny, and was a marketing strategy designed to cut into the Beats Audio phenomenon.

Will it work? Not unless the Sony X Headphones magically turn into better headphones, because the critics are unimpressed.

Gizmodo basically endorses the endorsement, not the product. “Make this purchase if you don’t mind paying a bit too much, and you really just want to support Simon Cowell,” writes reviewer Mario Aguilar.

PC Mag concludes Sony X Headphones are great for bass, but not for budgets or audiophiles looking for the sharpest sounds on the market. “Are they overpriced? Yes, but so are virtually all celebrity-endorsed headphones. Are they audiophile-level? No, there’s way too much boosted bass here for these to be considered accurate,” writes PC Mag’s Tim Gideon. “But do the Sony X Headphones provide an exciting sound signature for fans of bass-heavy modern mixes? Sure-and the inflated price at least also nets you some solid accessories.”
