Snow Weather Warning

December 3, 2013 by

Snow Weather Warning, TS-EX- Met Office have issued severe weather warnings for snow and high winds across much of Scotland later this week.

Forecasters have warned of up to an inch of lying snow across the Highlands, Northern Isles, northern Aberdeenshire and Tayside, with even more snow on higher ground across the north of the country.

The Central Belt could also be affected by the weather, caused by a spell of low pressure coming from northern Europe.

Winds of up to 70 miles per hour are also predicted throughout the day on Thursday, with warnings of possible snow drifts and travel disruption.

The Met Office ‘yellow’ warning reads: “Snow showers are expected to affect the north of Scotland from Thursday afternoon until Friday, these showers most frequent across the Northern Isles, the North Highlands and northern Aberdeenshire.

“Accumulations of 2 to 5 cm are possible in places on low ground, with 10 to 20 cm possible on higher ground.”

The Met Office chief forecaster wrote on the group’s website: “The deep low pressure passing to the north of the UK on Thursday will usher in a cold, showery airstream of Arctic origin across northern areas, with frequent sleet and snow showers feeding in to north and northeast Scotland for around 24 hrs.”
