January 22, 2013 by

Silver Lake Partners, Dell founder Michael Dell is in talks with Silver Lake Partners and reportedly Microsoft on a deal to take Dell private. Silver Lake Partners could have help if it continues to pursue Dell. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the Menlo Park private equity firm and Dell founder Michael Dell are talking to Microsoft Corp. about a deal. A source told the Journal that the Redmond-based software company would put a couple billion dollars into the financing.

This wouldn’t be the first time Silver Lake has chatted up Microsoft. In 2011, the private equity firm considering making a bid for Yahoo, talking to Microsoft, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and others about a deal that never materialized. (Read about that here.)

And earlier in 2011, Silver Lake sold Skype to Microsoft for $8.5 billion.

Dell buyout rumors surfaced Jan. 14, and Silver Lake is talking to the Texas-based computer company about a buyout in the range of $13-$14 a share.
