April 2, 2023 by

According to authorities, a shooting in the parking lot of a Trader Joe’s grocery store in Los Angeles left one person dead and three others wounded on Saturday afternoon, possibly in connection with a drug deal. Several suspects have been arrested.

The incident happened in the West Hills neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley around 3:45 p.m. local time, as stated by LAPD. “Our preliminary investigation has revealed that the dispute centered around a narcotics transaction in the area,” said LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton in a news conference on Saturday evening. “During that dispute, multiple suspects produced firearms and fired at each other.”

One person was declared dead at the scene, and Hamilton stated that the victim’s name has not been released. Two firearms were found at the shooting location.

After the shooting, one of the suspects attempted to flee in a vehicle, causing a police pursuit. The suspect was engaged in a hit-and-run with another vehicle during the pursuit, injuring an innocent person. The suspect then switched vehicles, and the chase continued.

Hamilton stated that the second vehicle was eventually pulled over, and a male suspect and a female driver were apprehended.

According to Hamilton, the injuries of the hit-and-run victim were not thought to be life-threatening. As of Saturday evening, two people were still hospitalized, and three others were in police custody. Hamilton stated that there were no outstanding suspects, and the cause and circumstances of the shooting are being investigated.
