Choo was one of the top remaining players on the free agent market. Last season with the Reds, he had a .423 on-base percentage and .285 batting average. He also had 21 home runs and 20 stolen bases. Choo has a .389 career on-base percentage in nine seasons in the majors.

He joins a Rangers lineup that also added first baseman Prince Fielder, acquired in a trade with the Tigers, this offseason.

The deal likely means the Rangers will not re-sign outfielder Nelson Cruz, who is another notable free agent still available.
